Quick Facts Pantry Pests
CORKY’S PANTRY PEST CONTROL SERVICE
Pantry pests, also known as ‘Stored Product Pests,” are a group of insects with appetites for dried and processed food products that have been shelved in grocery stores or stored in your home. They can even come from processing plants and warehouses. Products that can be infested include, flour, cereal, dry pasta, powdered milk, cornstarch, crackers, spices, chocolate, bread, birdseed, dried nuts and fruit, dry dog food, dry flower arrangements, and even medications (just to name a few).
The most common pantry pests are moths, beetles and weevils.
Pantry Pests aren’t known to spread diseases, and they don’t bite or sting. That’s the good news. Here is the bad. You can unknowingly ingest moths, larvae or eggs. Besides costing you lots of money in ruined food, the prospect of consuming these pests can figuratively make you sick.
The most common pantry pest is the Indian Meal Moth. It is identifiable by its habit of hovering around, near or in stored product areas of the kitchen. Their larvae can be found crawling, inside food packaging, on shelving and counter tops. Moths are about ½ inch in length. The Indian Meal Moth larvae are the source of damage, as adults do not feed at all.
Grain beetles and Rice weevils are smaller, vary from dark to light brown in color and can be found in product packaging and wandering inside cupboards. Both adults and larvae feed on food stuffs.
Pantry pests contaminate food as they leave behind their bodily by products; skin, webbing, frass (excrement), and hairs. Some even produce secretions that give food a bad odor.
To eliminate these nuisance pests from your home or business, it is important to start the process as soon as a problem is identified. Pantry pests reproduce rapidly and can quickly take over a kitchen, eventually, as with moths, they can flutter their way into other parts of the structure.
Corky’s Pantry Pest Control Service, is designed to get rid of these pests and it starts with,

- After service, it will be common to see a moth flying around or a beetle crawling. Pheromone traps are placed in strategic spots to catch these offenders.
