Crickets can be very annoying because they are hard to find and eliminate. As if this is not bad enough, crickets also have the irritating habit of chirping into the night. Crickets are mostly nocturnal. This is when they are on the hunt for food (insects, vegetation, natural fibers in cloth, paper and other crickets) and mates. Cricket chirps are the sounds produced by male crickets to attract females. Male crickets make the distinctive chirping sound by rubbing their front wings. Their chirping during warm spring and summer nights can be the cause of many sleepless nights.

Even after a service you need to:

• Reduce cricket habitat and limit entry into homes by keeping compost piles, firewood, rock piles or fallen logs away from the home or removing them entirely.
• Don’t overwater. Fix leaky faucets inside and out. Moisture attracts crickets.
• Thin dense foliage and cut tall grasses. Let the sun in to dry out over-moist areas.
• Keep them out by sealing holes, cracks or gaps in the foundation and repair or replace any damaged weather stripping.
• Kill or capture any wandering crickets on sight—if you can. After a control service, an occasional cricket may wander in from neighboring properties. Using your vacuum to suck up a wandering cricket can head off an invasion and ensure plenty of restful sleep.
