Introduction to Wood Pests
Everyone knows about termites as serious wood pests, and they certainly are a cause of major damage to structures. It is said that there are two types of homes in Southern California-those that have termites, and those that will soon have termites. There are also many types of beetles and borers which are common in our environment, and they can also be a problem for homeowners.
The most common termite problems for homeowners involve the subterranean and drywood termites, and to a lesser degree the dampwood termites. Powder Post beetles, which used to be quite common, Black Polycaon, and Deathwatch beetles can also be an issue. There are many types of woodborers-the Lead Cable, Round Headed, Long Horned, and Old House-that will occasionally infest wood products and structures.
The links will take you to the ten most common pests, where you can learn about their characteristics, life cycle, and the damage that they create.
