Pantry pest services

Each type of pest has different characteristics and life cycles, and each requires a different plan to effectively overcome the infestation. We know that nothing ever gets done right without a plan. You know the old saying, “plan your work and work your plan.”

Corky’s has the plan and our technicians work this plan to the fullest to control the pantry pest problems in your home.

The Plan

STEP 1-- Identify the type of pest. This will aid in finding the source of infestation. There are many types of beetles, weevils, moths, and even silverfish that commonly infest cupboards. They find their way into your pantry by hitchhiking in with infested food products, or in storage bags and boxes.

Kitchen area

STEP 2-- Find the source of infestation. Remove all items from the pantry or other areas of infestation. Examine each product and throw away anything that has been infested. Products most frequently infested include: flour, wheat, rice or other grain products, spices, and pet food. All infested products should be removed from the house and the un-infested items sealed in airtight containers or zip-lock bags. Do not put anything back in the cupboard or pantry until after a treatment is done and the areas are dry.
Reproductive adults (the moths in most cases) may have laid eggs in cracks and crevices of shelving, in boxes and on rims of canned goods. Therefore, it is necessary that all shelf paper be removed, cupboards be thoroughly washed with hot, soapy water and canned goods be inspected and wiped free of any evidence of infestation (webbing, eggs or the worms or moths). Re-infestation often occurs because something is returned to the cupboard that hasn’t been thoroughly inspected and live insects or eggs are still present.

Pantry area

STEP 3-- Treatment of all areas of the pantry or infested cupboards, especially the cracks and crevices, to kill any remaining pests. Once he has completed the treatment of the affected areas and they are dry, you are free to return the uninfested sealed products back to the pantry.
Do not clean the treated areas after the treatment. This will remove the materials used to combat your problem and leave your pantry unprotected. If you are uneasy about having your food stores in close proximity to the materials, shelf paper may be used as a barrier.

Cabinet spraying

NOTE--Because of the nature of a pantry pest infestation, there are no guarantees on this type of service. An extensive infestation may take more than one treatment to eradicate the pests. You may continue to see a few of the moths after the initial service. Just swat them with a fly swatter, and they should disappear, as they can no longer return to the areas of infestation.
